Meet the band

The ringers are of varied age!! Some of which have been there since the days the tower was built. They are all passionate in what they do and enjoy it, this brings out the best ringing and makes for a different but enjoyable activity. We all have a good sence of humour (Thank God) which is essential, as the @#*s take is often given when mistakes are made.

At Old Windsor we regularly practice chiming out the tune to "Twinkle little star"!!!, its interesting to do, as your bell is only used a strike at a time as per the music, making it essential that you hold or set your bell after each stroke, be it at hand or back stroke. You may also only be required to chime four or five times throughout the whole song. When struck correctly it sounds great.

Let us know if you know a tower that also strikes a tune or composses there own.

We invite you to click on the name of each ringer at Old Windsor and read the reasons they ring or just simply how long they have taken up the sport of campanology be it for religious or social reasons. Campanologists appear to be a tad shy, this will be noted as you brouse down the list.

Brouse as you please

It's fun and i get to see my Nan allot.

I started ringing around 1980 when my son Paul joined the junior choir of St. Peters & St. Andrews.

When I started Paul was already ringing and I only started to ring because I was getting bored waiting for him to finish (if you can’t beat them…).

I stopped ringing around 1993. In 2004 my youngest son Daniel started to ring again after a long absence and I joined him in returning to the ringing way. It was lovely to see my eldest Grandson Joshua learn to ring and for Paul his Dad to come back and ring with us again

Joined the Old Windsor band early this year (2008), after a year of
ringing on and off with limited success/fun in a tower with much more
difficult bells.

Found a lot more confidence here while enjoying great company and the
useful advice of Tower Captain Daniel - thanks for the help!

Joined the tower approximately 26 years ago. BLIMEY!

Was a regular ringer, ringing every Sunday , at weddings and at the odd special occasion. Left the tower during my late teens, typically, alcohol and girls took my mind elsewhere.

20 years later!!

My son starts ringing so he can see his Nan and Uncle (Daniel & Sylvia), so as a request, i started ringing again after a 20 year break. Like learning to ride a bike and quite by surprise enjoyed being back in the tower tugging on my sally!!

The band are a wonderful group, great to see old faces again and to meet the new.

Was asked by Dan (my younger bro) to design a web site for the tower and crew. Hope it's ok.

My wife has rung the bells at Old Windsor for a number of years. She encouraged me to give it a go; I resisted until 2002 and now wonder why i had not started sooner.

Bell ringing at Old Windsor is enjoyable, friendly, entertaining, sociable and challenging.

Guest ringers of visitors to the bellfry will be included in this section.
